I have been working on four species of Hornbill- Great hornbill, Wreathed hornbill, Rufous-necked hornbill and Oriental Pied hornbill. Currently I am working on two aspects: 1. Looking at the hornbill distribution and abundance in the north Bengal region of India, which is part of the eastern Himalayan landscape. 2. Systematic documentation of the breeding biology of Rufous-necked Hornbill and Great Hornbill. Our aim is to establish a long-term conservation initiatives with the local community and the forest department to protect them from the anthropogenic threats posed in this region. I am a trained ecologist, as I did my post-graduation in Ecology and Environmental sciences, with special focus on Ornithology and Chemical ecology.

Conservation of the Palawan Hornbill Anthracoceros marchei and other cavity-nesting birds. Palawan Hornbills and other cavity nesters have benefited from the patrolling and nest-protection schemes of the Philippine Cockatoo Conservation Program of Katala Foundation since almost twenty years. Recently, activities to specifically improve the conservation status of the Palawan Hornbills have been initiated. Monitoring and nest-protection protocols are being improved, among others, employing SMART-patrolling. Artificial nestboxes for hornbills will be designed and field-tested, making use of the extensive experience in this field in Singapore. Since the species is regularly poached in unprotected areas, procedures for rescue and rehabilitation will be developed and implemented. The species is integrated in existing conservation education efforts, highlighting its importance as seed disperser, and therefore in the regeneration and maintenance of forest ecosystems in Palawan. Peter Widmann in his role as co-director of Katala Foundation’s Philippine Cockatoo Conservation Program is in charge of technical aspects of conservation of cavity nesting birds. Hornbill species he is working with include the Palawan Hornbill, for which he is a contributor to Birdlife International for the IUCN red list assessments, but also Southern Rufous and Mindanao Hornbill in a conservation site in the southern Philippines.

My research focuses on illegal wildlife trade, particularly within markets for traditional medicine in southern Africa (since 1992). This research has included the pan-African trade in birds, and we've documented at least 14 hornbill species in 13 countries used for zootherapeutic purposes. For more info on my work visit https://sites.google.com/view/wildscience/homeFacebook link address is : https://www.facebook.com/vivienne.williams

So far, I have recorded hornbill species in biodiversity access rather than specific ecology researches on the hornbill. However, in the long run, I would like to do researches on ecology, distribution of hornbill and communication.
